Wish Delivered: Sensory friendly classroom supplies and seating

Teacher Heather Gillette says "I have a few students who are autistic and need hands on tools to help them remain in the classroom longer. This Montessori Board helps achieve that goal." It also works with Occupation Therapy in that they learn to grasp, pull, turn, and twist in a fun way while strengthening their muscles and building coordination.

Wish Delivered: Social Studies Textbooks and Teacher Resource Package

This wishlist will provide 50 social studies textbooks "The Idaho Adventure" as well as the teacher resource packs that come with the books. Teacher Hanna Ridgeway says "These social studies textbooks and teacher's resource package will benefit current AND future fourth graders for years to come. It will provide them with engaging opportunities to learn about their state and its geography and history. Not only will students learn about Idaho, but they will also be working on literacy skills through reading the non-fiction text; analyzing the text features of the book, and responding to high quality questions through verbal and written language."

This wishlist will give Classroom sets of the games Monopoly and Risk. Teacher Bridget Cardwell says, “Help me get my students interacting with each other and their attention away from their phones. Games are a fantastic learning tool, both for knowledge enhancement and the development of social skills. Students are constantly playing games on their phones, so I plan to get them involved face-to-face playing games in my classroom.

Teacher Jennifer Turnbull says “I teach students who are in the special education program from grades K-5, although I am primarily working with K-1 currently. I serve students with a wide variety of needs. Some of our students have complex learning needs and need more intensive explicit instruction in the areas of motor, adaptive, communication, cognitive, and social domains. These items will help support my special education students in their sensory, fine motor, math, reading and writing development."

This wishlist will provide technology communication tools such as an iPod, sound machine, headphones, and styluses. Teacher Marie Hansen says, “We have a student with a traumatic brain injury and additional physical disabilities. This specialized equipment will aid with communication, motivation, and cognitive development. It will also benefit the other students in the special education program as they work to communicate and interact with this student.”

This wishlist will give the class a set of 25 Chromebooks and a Chromebook cart with charging strips. Teacher Clarynn Yearsley says “Technology has changed education for the better. I want my students to be able to experience education through technology. When I was a second-grade student my classroom had three computers for student use. In my current classroom we must share a class set of iPads between all the second-grade classes. The iPads are great, but my students do not get the typing practice they will need for the real world."

Teacher Johanna Soderber says "As snow arrived in North Idaho, I quickly realized that my kindergarten students would benefit from additional storage space in my classroom for storing and quickly accessing snow gear. We have a limited number of hooks in a busy hallway where students hang their backpacks and coats...These storage centers and bins would provide a permanent place in the classroom for students to efficiently store and access their supplies throughout the day."
