The Idaho Lottery made a back-to-school Classroom Wishlist delivery at Tanya Gunter’s Caldwell High School Chemistry class. As an older school, critical science lab equipment is in disrepair or short supply.
With many students passionate about science, the classroom lab experience lacked the essential resources to fully engage them with hands-on, inquiry-based learning. That’s where the Idaho Lottery stepped in, providing a complete overhaul of the equipment and testing supplies necessary for a high school chemistry and biology lab. This included chemistry lab kits, calculators, hot plates, scales, a chemistry oven, digital thermometers and testing supplies.
“We will be able to investigate and explore real world science applications in a safe, state-of-the art learning lab setting,” said Tanya. “This will really make a difference in our student’s lives.”
After the presentation, as the team of Lottery personnel were leaving, one young student approached the group and offered very sincerely, “Thank you. Thank you for supporting people like me and everyone at my school.”
“By engaging with real-world problems, students will develop critical thinking skills, increase their interest in STEM fields and be better prepared for college and career opportunities,” added Tanya.
So far this Fiscal Year, the Idaho Lottery has returned $40,836 for school needs through Classroom Wishlist. If you know a teacher or a school in need, have them visit idaholottery.com/wishlist to apply.
