Big Bun managers win big top prize of $100,000

BOISE, Idaho ÔÇô While some people were celebrating the 4th of July with firecrackers and sparklers, Tyler Kellogg and his wife Joyce celebrated the day with their own version of fireworks. The couple, which manages the Big Bun Drive-In on Overland and Curtis, was celebrating eight years of being together and bought a $10 Idaho Lottery Maximum Fortune Scratch GameTM from the Jacksons store across the street.

"I always buy the tickets and let my wife scratch them. Usually I just buy a $5 ticket, but it was our anniversary, so I got the $10 one," described Tyler. "I got the ticket before we opened for business and gave it to her. I knew we won something when I saw her running toward me with it. I thought maybe we'd win $100 to buy some fireworks later."

"At first I was like, 'are you messing with me', thinking it was one of those joke tickets," added Joyce. "Then I thought it was just $100, but realized it was $100,000. We tried to call the Lottery, but the offices were closed for the 4th of July!"

The couple then worked their entire shift from open to close at the Big Bun. "It was hard to work all day yesterday," confessed Joyce.

The couple claimed their prize from the Idaho Lottery on Friday morning shortly after the Lottery offices opened for business.

Each year on their anniversary, the couple sits down together and makes financial goals. Last year's goal was to start this year's list without credit card debt at the top of the list. "Check that one off," said Tyler.

The couple plans to save and invest the remainder of their winnings.

For their part in selling the winning ticket, Jacksons Food Stores will receive a bonus from the Idaho Lottery for $10,000. Maximum Fortune has one $10,000 top prize remaining.
