Friday the 13th Winner! Nampa Woman Claims $250,000 Mega Millions Ticket

BOISE, Idaho ÔÇô Who says Friday the 13th isn't a lucky day? Certainly not Carolina Furdui who claimed $250,000 at Idaho Lottery headquarters this morning from a Mega Millions ticket bought for the historic draw on March 30, 2012. The winning ticket was sold by the Maverik on Karcher Road in Nampa.

"I usually only buy a $1 quick pick when the jackpot gets really big," said Furdui of her purchase for the big draw when she stopped to get gas. "This time, I went a little crazy, I bought a $2 quick pick."ÔÇï

ÔÇïThat turned out to be a lucky decision as the second line on her ticket was the $250,000 winner. And perhaps bittersweet was that while Furdui's ticket matched all five of the first numbers, her ticket missed the Megaball by only a single number. Her Megaball number was 24 and the winning number that night was 23.

"I haven't gotten too caught up in what could have been, this is great," said a thankful Furdui who carried the winning ticket around in her shoulder bag for two weeks before discovering she had the winning ticket.ÔÇï

ÔÇïThe Maverik on Karcher Road in Nampa is one of the luckier stores in the Treasure Valley, with a long list of six-figure and higher winners. In 2008 within a month, this store sold a $200,000 Powerball winner to Pamela Shoppe and then a $600,000 Powerball winner to John Garcia and Eddie Dietrich who played after receiving a fortune cookie that said they would come into a large sum of money. The store also sold the Idaho Lottery's 2009 Idaho $1,000,000 Raffle winner to Hilda Floyd. For their part in selling this $250,000 Mega Millions winner, the store's first, Maverik receives a bonus from the Idaho Lottery of $20,000.
