Classroom Wishlist is a monthly Idaho Lottery Do Good program that allows teachers to submit their classroom wishes to be fulfilled. With the help of our players, the Idaho Lottery funds up to $10,000 in classroom needs every month!

FEATURED STORY:

Two Rivers K-8 for Kim Unrein

The Extended Resource Room (ERR) at the Two Rivers K-8 school is in hopes of setting up, for the first time ever in our school district’s history, a “sensory room.” As a special education teacher and past paraprofessional, I have worked for the school district for 38 years and it has been a dream of mine to help students with autism and high anxiety to experience the calming affects of a sensory room.

Our small town of Salmon voted to build a new school, which will be completed and opened this next school year (2026-2027), after 13 failed bond attempts. The district’s building situation and bond failures made the national news and the State of Idaho developed a law to help get money to needy school districts like ours over this issue.

We live in a Title 1 district and funding for needed items is hard to come by, let alone a dream that would benefit so many children struggling with autism, high anxiety, and other mental health issues. The sensory room would provide calming to them in order to help these students to focus in the classroom and on their academics. The “Sensory Room” would be made available to any K-8 student that is in need of a moment of calming. A schedule would be put together in the event more children needed the sensory room than the room could accommodate at a time.

Being awarded the funding for the equipment for this Sensory Room, would be amazing and a legacy to pass on to all the students needing such a break. Our underserved students at Two Rivers K-8 would be thrilled to be granted this “dream” by the Idaho Lottery wish list committee.
