Wish Delivered: Teacher Training

Teacher Julianne Dennis says "I am always looking for better ways to help struggling readers because every child deserves the opportunity to become a confident, successful reader. As the Literacy Coach in a high-needs K–4 elementary school, I support both students and teachers in building strong literacy skills. Many of our students need explicit, research-based instruction to become successful readers. I know that strong literacy skills open the door to success in every subject and create opportunities that last a lifetime. That is why I am seeking funding to attend the Evidence-Based Literacy Instruction (EBLI) Teacher Training. EBLI provides research-backed strategies in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, spelling, handwriting, and writing. Its focus on accelerating learning and will help me to provide more effective support for our most vulnerable readers. "

Wish Delivered: Classroom supplies and Books

Teacher Beatrice Gatica says "Many of the items on my wishlist directly support these essential skills. A class set of headphones is one of my greatest needs because my students use the Amira reading assessment for state testing. Currently, our classroom has only five working pairs of headphones, making testing and literacy activities difficult to manage. A complete class set would allow every student to participate without delays and ensure they have the resources needed to demonstrate their learning."

Wish Delivered: Classroom Supplies and Books

Teacher Sarah Park says "Students benefit from a welcoming environment. I hope to achieve this with bulletin board materials and wall decor that promote positive messages and reading and math concepts. Students, especially younger students, need hands-on practice with math and reading skills. I want to give them access to these things in my classroom each day. Research shows that learning games have a positive impact on student learning, and it encourages those that struggle. I also need all items purchased to last for years so many students can benefit from them over several years. That's why I've included many organizational materials on my list. All manipulatives and games will be stored (when not in use), so they are less likely to get lost or broken. The book sets on my wish list will be a great addition as they are complete sets for some of the popular books that students enjoy! I plan to continue to build my classroom library with gently used books using my own money. "

Wish Delivered: Kindergarten Classroom Supplies

Teacher Heidi Bencomo says "In a kindergarten classroom, education extends far beyond early reading and math. At five years old, my students are taking their very first steps into public school, learning what it means to be independent, creative, empathetic, and cooperative members of a community. Every day, our classroom functions as a vibrant laboratory where children practice self-regulation, health habits, spatial reasoning, and fine motor control. However, the essential tools required to make this daily transformation possible are consumable supplies. "
